Yuejiang Lou

The Yuejianglou Tower in the northeast Nanjing looks out over the broad sweep of the Yangtze River. The 50 meter high pagoda is built in the style of the Ming dynasty and is mentioned in a poem by the founder of the Ming emperor, but it was built only three years ago. Behind this is a well known story in Chinese history. The founder of the Ming Dynasty fought a major battle on the site over 600 years ago, and planned to build a great tower there. To commemorate his victory and provide a place to admire the scenery of the great river,(Yuejianglou means "view the river" in classical Chinese) he invited his leading scholars to write essays with plans for the tower, and even wrote one himself.  While several of these essays later became literary classics, the tower itself was never built.  as the emperor was distracted by other rebellions and intrigues.
Several years ago the tower and its surrounding buildings were finally built in a splendid period style.  As well as using the plans described in the Ming dynasty essays,  scholars of classical architecture were consulted and historical records examined, resulting in a beautiful and impressive tower. Yuejianglou Tower is established with unique wings shapes. There are 4 floors outside,3 floors inside.Rising over 50 meters tall, it's massive and square, with dozens of layers of tile roofs interlinking like the pieces of a puzzle.   The tower's walls and beams are painted red and dark green, and the glistening ceramic roof tiles are the shade of yellow once reserved for imperial buildings.  Beneath the tower, a section of the Imperial city wall wraps around the base of the forested hill. The tower's highest balconies offer a breathtaking view over the broad Yangtze River.
