Bund Sightseeing Tunnel

The “Bund Sightseeing Tunnel” which connects the Bund Area with the Lujiazui CBD area in Pudong is just a few steps away now.

With a total length of 646.7 meters, it is the first pedestrian river-crossing tunnel in China and also the longest of this kind all over the world. Escalators are well equipped in both entrances on each side of the river and it takes about 2.5 to 3 minutes on average for a one-way trip across the river. It is said that the tiptop transportation capacity of the tunnel can reach 5,280 people per our.

The “Bund Sightseeing Tunnel” is one of the new items of Shanghai’s public transportation trip and what’s more, the tunnel was said to have broken seven records during its construction process.

Firstly, it is the first sightseeing tunnel in the world. Secondly, the tunnel came across with the two metro lines underground and the space between the narrowest cross was only 1.57 metres which no wonder became the wonder in the tunnel construction history. And thirdly a high-tech central monitoring system called SK was introduced from France, which was the first to be used domestically. Apart from these, the application of the unmanned automatic control system and the use of Bakelite in paving the railways etc are also avant-garde design, which are pioneering public transportation both home and abroad.
