Shanghai Art Gallery ,formerly Shanghai Art Exhibiton Center ,is situated at 325 West Nanjing Road.Founded in 1956, it has become a modern gallery for art circle and art lovers to appreciate art works, and conduct academic activities and for domestic and foreign fine art exchanges.Now it boasts 12 exhibition halls with avanced electronic monitoring system,multi--media guiding services and other perfect exhibition facilities,suitable to hold various exhibitions of art works.In addition,there are some other facilities in the gallery,such as conference room ,academic activities room ,multi-funtion hall and art material room.

The morden art works collected by Shanghai Art Gallery mainly include works of famous Chinese artists and those attaining prizes in the domestic art exhibitions.Their exhibits include oil painting,traditional Chiense painting,engraved painting,watercolor painting,sculpture,etc.

Shanghai art gallery also estabilishes the special acadmic institution to undertake the evaluations of art works on different levels.Beginning from 1996,Shanghai Art Gallery had held Shanghai Biennial Art Exhibitions every two years,in the hope of carrying on more exhibition activities both domestically and internationally.
