Soong died of lymphocytic leukemia on May 29, 1981. After Soong’s death, her ashes were buried beside her parents at Shanghai International Cemetery, which sits at No. 21 Songyuan Road near the intersection with Hongqiao Road.
In the cemetery also rest many foreigners who had been in Shanghai and enjoyed very good relations with China.
The cemetery named after Soong is a large garden with tall pine trees and brilliant chrysanthemums of different shapes and colors.
The marble statue of Soong Ching—ling sitting at the square, surrounded appropriately by doves, seems almost alive. The statue gives the appearance of a calm, affectionate and warm woman, like a goddess.
Large pictures, which are divided into eight categories from Soong’s life, recall her in much detail.
