Nanhui District is a “Jewel” in the southeastern Yangtze Delta, with the Huangpu River to the west, the East China Sea to the east and Huangpu Bay to the south. Forty kilometers east of downtown Shanghai, the rich soil of Nanhui blushes with 2,668 hectares of peach blossoms. Every year the peach trees flowers present a beautiful picture of “blossoms drifting like pink clouds” as depicted by Li He, a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty.
The peach blossom paradise was dotted with beautiful houses, rich fields, lovely ponds, and happy people. But once the bedazzled fisherman left, he was unable to find this peachy paradise again.
In Nanhui District, an annual festival celebrates the burgeoning buds and offers vistors some of Shanghai’s most stunning natural scenery. A great number of people gather in Nanhui on this occasion to enjoy the profusion of rich colors amid abundant orchard scenes. Enjoying the blossoms, however, begins on the road, lined with showy pink peach flowers and golden rape plants blossoms. Peach orchards are flourishing in every corner of it.
The peach has become the main products of Nanhui District. Peach groves are dotted in every part of it. The fruit ripens from early May to late October. Nanhui District is as famous for its sweet, juicy honey peaches as for peach blossoms. Every peach tree can produce 10 to 15 Kilograms of high –quality honey peaches. The peaches are exported, winning generous compliments from foreign customers. Now the peach has become the symbol of Nanhui District.
