At the end of the corridor is a separate courtyard dominated by a two-storied building called Tower of Ten Thousand Flowers. It is so called because there used to be fresh flowers all the year round. The original building was the shrine for Goddess of Flowers. In 1843, it was rebuilt to house the effigy of the city God. Since 1950s, it has been called Tower of Ten Thousand Flower. Many designs of plants and flowers are found on the beams, the doors and the windows. Particularly eye-catching are the designs of the orchid, the bamboo, the chrysanthemum and the plum in the window frames at the four corners of the ground floor. The four plants represent spring, summer, autumn and winter respectively. In Confucian ideology, each also symbolizes a particular aspect of the junzi (“noble person”). They are collectively referred as “the four of great nobility.”
Now in the tower are on display a set of ancient furniture with delicate carved flowers. The furniture is over 200 years old.
In front of the tower is a narrow pond which is the extension of the pond found in the white-washed wall are set some rocks brought here from lakes, decorated with bushes and flowers. Eroded by water, they are in interesting shapes, some resembling animals.
