BEIJING , April 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Tibet is expected to start the third-generation (3G) communication services in mid-May, marking its entry into 3G communication epoch.
The Tibet Office of China Mobile Communications Corp (CMCC), the world's largest mobile operator, has completed the construction of 160 TD (Time Division) basic stations in Lhasa. The stations began to be built last December.
Xiang Tao, deputy general manager of the office, indicated that the 3G services will initially cover major facilities in Lhasa's urban area, such as hotels, business clubhouses, the railway station and the airport, and later spread to other parts in the future.
Now, the office is conducting an internal test on this technology and optimizing its network.
Users just need to switch to 3G mobile phones to enjoy this service in the areas with TD-signals, Xiang said. (Source: Tibet Daily)
