The ground-breaking ceremony was held Tuesday for the preparatory construction of the accommodation highway linking Lhasa to the Gongkhar Airport.
Attending the ceremony were Zhang Qingli, secretary of the Tibet Regional Committee of the CPC, Pelma Trile, member of the Standing Committee of the Tibet Regional Committee of the CPC, and other government officials.
Pelma Trile urged the transportation and construction departments to focus on the project quality and try to build the highway into an ecology-friendly road leading the Tibetan people to prosperity.
The highway will run from the Lhasa Railway Station to the Gala Mountain Tunnel via the south side of the Lhasa River Valley and the Quxu County.
The 37.86-km highway will be completed at a cost of 1.54 billion yuan RMB. It will not only link the urban area of Lhasa to the Gongkhar Airport, but is also significant to the improvement of the Lhasa's comprehensive transportation system and its regional investment environment.
