www.chinaview.cn HANGZHOU , May 20 (Xinhua) -- Parents of the dead pedestrian in east China's Zhejiang Province was compensated for more than one million yuan by a drag-racing driver, said local authorities on Wednesday. According to an agreement reached by both sides on Monday, Hu Bin, who has been arrested on speeding and vehicular manslaughter charges in Hangzhou, would pay 642,613 yuan (about 94,502 U.S. dollars) as compensation for the death of the victim, 25-year-old Tan Zhuo, said a spokesman with the Hangzhou public security bureau. Hu's mother also agreed to pay Tan's parents another 487,487 yuan (about 71,689 U.S. dollars) for their livelihood in the future. Hu, a university student, aroused public anger after he allegedly killed a pedestrian in downtown Hangzhou. Hu was driving a Mitsubishi sports car and a forensic analysis report showed the speed was between 84.1 km and 101.2 km per hour, while speed limit of downtown road was 50 km per hour. |
