BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The scenic zone of Lake Namtso, 240 km north of Tibet's capital of Lhasa, is applying for the national level AAAA tourist zone and state-level scenic spot, according to local authorities.

     Namtso won a gold medal for the "most visit-deserving place for foreigners" by Global Times in 2006, said Zhao Xuekun, director of the Tourism Bureau of Damxung County, Lhasa City, Tibet Autonomous Region.

    He added that the county was cited as one of the ten best-known scenic resorts in East Asia in 2007, and that it has become a major sight-seeing area in Lhasa.
