BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition in Beijing on Tibet's 50 years of achievement, which was scheduled to close on April 10, will run till April 30, organizers said here Tuesday.
The exhibition has attracted more than 240,000 visitors since it opened on Feb. 24. The extension was made to allow more people to visit the exhibition, organizers said.
The exhibition in Beijing's Cultural Palace of Nationalities features more than 180 historical relics, files, installations and about 500 documentary pictures.
It has five sections: the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet; Crackdown on the Armed Rebellion; Democratic Reform in Tibet; Halfa Century of Conflict between Reunification and Separation, Progress and Regress; and Social and Economic Development and Achievements in Human Rights.
Some instruments of torture used in a Lhasa prison before the peaceful liberation, including an oil pot, thumbscrews, a leather whip with copper hoop and a stone cap used to gouge eyes, are on display.
The exhibition is co-sponsored by the Information Office of the State Council, the United Front Department of the CPC Central Committee, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Tibet Autonomous Region, the Central Archives, and the Xinhua News Agency.
