Nyingchi Prefecture, southeastern Tibet, held its first press conference to brief reporters on the development of industries in Bome County with local characteristics on Tuesday.
Zhou Chuanxiong, deputy magistrate of Bome County, said, "I attended the training course for press spokesmen organized by the prefectural government last year. I'm a little bit nervous in reporting my work in the presence of so many journalists."
Dolkar, commissioner of Nyingchi Prefecture, said that holding news conferences is a move to increase the transparency of government work and related information, so as to make an all-round and accurate introduction to Nyingchi.
A reporter of the Nyingchi TV said, "news conferences in other parts of China are very common, and yet they are so rare in Tibet."
Tibet has held 20 to 30 news conferences annually since the first training course for press spokesmen was held in 2004, according to staff of the Tibet Regional Information Office.
The news conferences cover all aspects of the government work. Moreover, governments at the prefectural level began to hold news conferences earlier this year.
With the help of the Central Government and other parts of China, Tibet has achieved great success in its economy, politics and culture. Therefore, the press conference system will provide a platform for foreign correspondents to know a real Tibet.   Source: Xinhua
